Heat transport by electrons, phonons and photons in mesoscopic circuits

I discuss heat transport in mesoscopic structures at low temperatures and how it affects the performance of single-electron based devices for quantum metrology. Special attention is paid to the energy carried by electrons and to the coupling of the mesoscopic circuits to the electromagnetic environment. At the end I discuss some counterintuitive predictions, namely the concept of a Brownian refrigerator and the violation of FDT in time-dependent heat transport.
