Elastic exciton scattering in carbon nanotubes

Recent developments in the hole-burning nonlinear spectroscopy technique achieved in the coherent and nonlinear optics team of LPA, have allowed to bring evidence for elastic scattering of excitons in photoexcited carbon nanotubes. This elastic scattering gives rise to a significant broadening of the exciton line at low temperature. This rather unexpected result contrasts with the established knowledge about the population dynamics which is mainly governed by strong Auger effects, typical of one dimensional systems.

Diffusion d'excitons

This finding highlights the very special nature of carbon nanotubes at the frontier between organic and inorganic materials.
